Visit New England’s oldest wooden mansion built in 1668 in historic Salem Massachusetts. The House of the Seven Gables offers professionally guided tours through the Turner-Ingersoll mansion, where surprises including some of the country’s earliest Georgian interiors and a climb up the secret staircase are revealed. All visits include a tour through The Nathaniel Hawthorne House, the birthplace of the author of The House of the Seven Gables and The Scarlet Letter. Stroll through seaside gardens and take in waterfront views of Salem harbor, or shop in the museum store located in the Retire-Beckett house dating to 1655.

Directions: From Boston by train (30 minutes): Newburyport/Rockport line from North Station. Exit Salem Depot and walk toward Washington Street. Turn right onto Washington Street, left onto Derby Street. The house is a 20 minute walk from the depot.
